Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa) was honored to be in attendance at the World Science Forum (WSF 2022) in Capetown, South Africa.
TCC Africa’s Executive Director, Ms. Joy Owango, spoke on OpenScience African Perspectives Through Strategic Partnerships and Its Impact on Democratizing Knowledge, citing the partnerships TCC Africa has made with Public Library of Science (PLOS), the Association of African Universities (AAU) , and the East African Commission of Science . She also spoke on how TCC Africa is working with these partners in driving regional and institutional policy dialogue on Open Science in Africa.
The co-panelists at the session were (Tom Olijhoek) from DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), African Academy of Sciences, Stellenbosch University and (Magdalena Skipper ) Nature Portfolio. The theme of the panel session was on Establishing an African Knowledge Democracy for Increased Social Justice, hosted by the Academy of Science of South Africa and African Academy of Sciences.
The Training Centre in Communication(TCC Africa), is the first African-based training centre to teach effective communication skills to scientists. TCC Africa is an award winning Trust, established as a non-profit entity in 2006 and is registered in Kenya. TCC Africa provides capacity support in improving researchers output and visibility through training in scholarly and science communication.
